public_html is the live site. Anything outside it sits on the server but never reaches the web, and dropping files in the wrong folder is the first mistake nearly everybody makes.

Send single files straight, folders as a zip
One file uploads on its own. A whole folder tree travels far better zipped: upload the archive, then use Extract in place. It beats a queue of hundreds of small transfers by a wide margin.

Watch the capitals in filenames
Linux hosting reads Photo.JPG and photo.jpg as two different files, and a link written the other way simply breaks. Lower case with hyphens keeps you out of that argument entirely.

Leave permissions alone unless told otherwise
The defaults — 644 for files, 755 for folders — are already correct. Change them when documentation asks for it, never as a guess while you are chasing a problem.

Which folder do website files actually go in?
public_html for the main domain. Every addon domain and subdomain gets its own document root, shown in the panel where you created it. That document root is the point at which folders start turning into web addresses.
My page shows raw code instead of a web page — why?
Nearly always the file extension. A .html file renders, .txt displays as plain text, and PHP only runs when the file ends in .php. Rename it correctly and the server treats it the way you expected all along.
