Transfers, explained
Does my site or my email go down while it moves?
No. A transfer changes who administers the registration and nothing else; your DNS records travel across unchanged, so the site and the mailboxes keep running from start to finish.
Is the extra year genuinely free?
On most of the popular endings, yes — the move adds a whole year to whatever term is left and costs nothing on top. A few country-code and specialist endings do not allow it, and where that applies to your name we say so before you reach the checkout.
What is an EPP code, and where do I get one?
An EPP code — also called an auth code — is a short password proving the name belongs to you. Ask for it in your current registrar's control panel or from their support desk; it normally lands in your inbox within a few minutes.
How long does a transfer take?
Once you have approved it, most finish inside a few days. The exact wait depends on the registrar you are leaving and the rules of that particular ending. The domain keeps working the whole way through.
What do I need to sort out first?
Two things at your current registrar: unlock the name and lift any transfer or privacy lock, then request the EPP code. The registry also requires the domain to be at least 60 days old and not to have changed registrar in the last 60 days — that condition comes from the registry, not from us.
Do my DNS records survive the move?
They do, untouched, and you manage them in our panel afterwards. If you would rather point the name at our hosting instead, a free SSL certificate installs itself the moment you do.
