What people ask about .pk
Why would registering from inside Pakistan work out cheaper?
Because PKNIC prices the extension in two tiers, and we are honest about which one we are on. Pakistan-based accounts pay a rupee rate that international registrars cannot access; from outside Pakistan the registry charges the international rate — that is the rate we are billed, and our $8.50 a year sits deliberately under it. If you are in Pakistan with a local payment method and the patience for the registry's own process, you will pay less going direct — say so and we will not pretend otherwise. What we sell is the international route: card payment, our WHOIS privacy, and one account holding this alongside your hosting.
What does a .pk domain cost?
$8.50 a year. PKNIC insists on a minimum term of two years, so the first payment is $17.00 and covers two full years. That is the registry's rule rather than a bundle we invented — there is no one-year .pk to sell. Renewals stay at $8.50 a year, with no rise once the first term is up.
Why two years and not one?
Because PKNIC, the official registry, sets the term, and it applies to every .pk whichever registrar you go through. Anyone quoting a one-year .pk price is either showing half the real cost or cannot actually register the name. We would sooner print $17.00 on the tag than spring it on you at the till.
Does my name appear when somebody runs a search on the domain?
It does not. Run a public WHOIS lookup on a .pk and you get back whether the name is taken, its creation and expiry dates, and the nameservers answering for it. The registrant name stays hidden, as do the address, the phone number and the email. That is unusual, and it falls your way. With most endings the choice is publication or paying for a privacy service. Nothing is published here, and there is nothing extra to buy.
Must I hold a CNIC, or a Pakistani address, to register one?
You need neither. PKNIC attaches no local-presence condition to a .pk or a .com.pk and never asks to see a CNIC, so the name can be bought from any country on earth. People get that wrong more often than anything else about this extension. Our own registrations come mostly from diaspora businesses, from exporters, and from firms selling into the Pakistani market at a distance or pinning down a brand there before somebody else does.
How long does registration take?
As you type, availability is read straight off PKNIC's own WHOIS, so what comes back is current, not a cached guess. Filing the registration is another matter: one of us keys it in by hand instead of a script running it end to end, and the name can take up to one working day to surface in your account. The moment it goes live, an email lands with you. Advertising "instant" would read better on the page and set you up for a let-down, so we don't.
I hold a .pk already. Can you move it across to you?
We can, but the registry drives it. There is no automatic auth-code routine of the sort you will have met on a .com. Send a ticket with the domain name in it and we will come back with exactly what PKNIC wants from you, then file the paperwork on your behalf. The help costs nothing.
Which of the four should I pick?
Trading as a company, .com.pk is the conventional choice and the one Pakistani customers place quickest. Bare .pk runs shorter and is open to anyone, which suits a brand or a personal site while the name sits free. Non-profits and associations belong on .org.pk. Network operators are what .net.pk was written for. All four cost the same, and all four carry the same two-year minimum.
Can I pay for this from inside Pakistan?
Card, and only a card cleared for international payments. Straight answer on the rest: PayPal does not serve consumers in Pakistan, and JazzCash, Easypaisa and a local bank transfer are all beyond us for now. Should none of that work at your end, far better to find out today than after you have fallen for a particular name.
